The Andrews
The Andrews was an expansion of a former 6-story walk-up hotel. The existing lodging house, one of only a few left on Manhattan’s Bowery, was converted to a 9-story elevator building complete with lounges, a terrace and support service offices accessible to all residents.
The 146 “First Step Housing” units employ small-space concepts by a variety of designers. The Andrews was featured in the 2006 “Design Like You Give A Damn: Architectural Responses To Humanitarian Crises” by Architecture For Humanity.
