Village View

Village View Coop in NYC’s East Village is a complex of seven, 21 story buildings over three city blocks each interconnected with a continuous pedestrian walkway that gives access to an upper and lower entry for each building.

Because the dual level lobbies made access to laundry rooms and mail boxes unmanageable for elderly and handicapped persons, OCV was tasked to do a full lobby renovation that upgrades all finishes, expands lobby area and gives full accessibility to mail and laundry facilities for all shareholders.

The lobby solution takes former storage rooms and encloses them with floor to ceiling glass, creating a generous mail plaza on the same level as the building elevators. Mail boxes are elevated on tiled plinths that seamlessly extended to the newly tiled floors and walls. The mail box suites are encased in custom wood cabinetry with Cesarstone ledges.

The new storefronts consist of three varying opacities of glass, horizontal mullions and an aluminum column treatment which forms a dynamic ‘Bauhaus’ influenced façade that brings focus to the first floor and enhances the minimal fifties design of the existing buildings.

The existing lobby’s deteriorated NYCHA finishes, walls, floors and elevators have been upgraded with porcelain and granite surfacing, stainless steel railings, and matt glass accent walls.

New indoor and outdoor lighting is targeted so that at night the newly enclosed lobbies glow from within, welcoming tenants throughout the sidewalks and gardens of the residence.
